To being brave

I started off 2025 with big plans for my blog. In fact, I captured this picture in January while working on this dream project of mine at a coffee shop, with my creative juices flowing as beautifully as that smooth cup of cappuccino.

Countless cups later, my dream remains just that… a dream. My autoimmune condition flared up after five years, leading to several hospital stays, iron infusions, steroid treatment, minor surgery and major emotional trauma. I contemplated writing about my health issues several times while undergoing treatment and during periods of rest and recovery. I admit, I have some failed  attempts in my drafts.

Sadly, I gave in to the naysayers – those who believe that my writing is an attempt to seek attention and gain sympathy, a way to justify my excessive weight gain and an excuse for being socially awkward at most times. In those moments, I felt that by writing about my health, I would be subjecting myself to repeat emotional trauma so I decided against it. Right now, I still can’t bring myself to fully process the impact of my condition. And that’s the reason my blog posts have been few and far between.

Amid my health challenges, I’m grateful for the writing opportunities that came my way – my much-needed reminders from the Universe. These pieces were published in the POST Newspaper, and I hold them close to my heart:

  1. The evolution of the side hustle, and the women who make it happen

If you have read any of these pieces and if you have read up to this point – I truly appreciate your support in my writing journey. I don’t have any big writing plans for the new year. But I want to try to be brave. I hope you will stick around so we can see how that goes, together. Here’s to brave writing in 2026!
